GRADED RETURN TO WORK
This is a systematic programme which involves the upgrading of a worker’s hours and duties within a specified time frame.
The programme is designed to overcome the effects of an injury and to ensure that all tasks can be safely carried out.
The programme is carefully monitored and is developed in co-operation with the treating doctor, employer, insurer and injured worker.
Activities undertaken in the development of a Graded Return to Work include:
· Assessment of current functioning by a qualified therapist
· Worksite assessment of pre-injury duties / possible alternate duties
· Contact with treating doctor to obtain agreement with programme
· On site discussion of the programme with the Supervisor and injured worker
· Work visits to ensure programme progresses according to plan
· Monitoring and upgrading of programme until full duties or alternate employment is achieved
· Regular reports and liaison with employer, insurer and injured worker
